About Our Junior Program

In our Junior Program, The Redcaps value participation over winning and our Junior Philosophy sets a clear direction for us and guides everything that we do and stand for at Wendouree.  Experience has shown that when we encourage participation, teamwork and respect - success will follow.

At Wendouree we measure success in ways other than winning premierships, although we've collected more than our fair share along the way. The Wendouree Cricket Club aims to provide an inclusive environment where boys and girls of all ages and abilities can learn the game and enjoy playing in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

We understand that "it takes a village to raise a child" so we are committed to providing strong male and female role models for the kids in our programs. We are fortunate to have some extremely committed and respected people involved in our junior program who instil the values of respect, fair play and team work into everything we do.

Where are we?

The home of 'The Red Caps' is CE Brown Reserve off Norman Street, Wendouree.  Click here for a map

The Redcaps train at the Wendouree Cricket Nets located behind the Wendouree Netball Stadium within the CE Brown Reserve and our senior 1st & 2nd XI play on the turf pitch on the main Wendouree oval.  The main Wendouree oval is now arguably the best playing surface in Ballarat after it underwent a $1 million overhaul before the 2015/16 season.

Our Woolworths Master Blasters (previously Milo in2 Cricket) program for 5-8 year old kids, operates on the magnificent surface of the main Wendouree Oval on a Sunday morning.

Junior Grounds

Our juniors play their home games at the Wendouree #2 oval at CE Brown Reserve and also at many of the 13 cricket ovals located in Victoria  Park, Ballarat.  Its not uncommon to see 5-6 Redcaps teams all playing on adjoining grounds at Vic Park on a Saturday morning!

Our club rooms have also recently been renovated and we now have dedicated junior and senior change rooms and shower facilities and dedicated female change rooms.  The Redcaps now boast the best facilities in the Ballarat Cricket Association, both on and off the field.

Working With Children Checks

All of our Junior Coaches, Junior Committee members, Junior Co-ordinators and many other people connected with our club hold current Working With Children Checks.

All Working With Children Checks are individually checked and validated at the start of each season.  Parents can have confidence in our systems and processes and be reassured that we take our responsibilities and duty of care in relation to providing a safe environment for kids very seriously.

Click here to see a list of the people in our club who are associated with our junior program and their Working With Children card numbers.

The standards that exist within Wendouree Cricket Club in relation to Working With Children Checks  far exceed the minimum standards set by Cricket Victoria.

Policies, Guidelines & Codes of Conduct

Wendouree Cricket Club has a number of policies and guidelines that relate to our Junior Program.

These policies cover things such as Working With Children Checks, General Codes of Conduct, Alcohol Policy and Picking-up & Dropping off of Children.

Coaching

We now have well over 140 Level 1 coaches that have been accredited through the Wendouree Cricket Club!  Click here to see a list of all our accredited coaches since 2009.

This astounding number is more than any other club in the Ballarat/Central Highlands Region (and probably the state!) and demonstrates our commitment to providing a structured and meaningful program and pathway for parents and other volunteers who want to become involved in our Junior Program - not just the kids!  The coaching and mentoring offered by Wendouree Cricket Club at all levels is second to none.

New coaches are all offered full support through their on-line learning and completion of the Community Coach (Level 1) course.  After completing the Community Coach course, new coaches are supported and mentored by the club and Junior Co-ordinators while they learn their new skills and build their confidence - you wont be 'thrown in the deep end'.

Typically a new coach is allocated the role of an 'assistant coach' to an experienced accredited Level 1 coach who will guide and mentor them for at least a full season.  Once the new coach feels confident to take the next step, they are supported to take on greater roles and responsibility within the club.

Information about becoming a coach can be found here.  If you are interested in becoming involved as a coach or even a 'general helper' with you own child's teams or any of our junior teams, please contact one of our Junior Co-ordinators - David Knight on 0431 581 901 or Tim Argall 0412 344 345 or our Senior Club Coach Peter Le Lievre 0417 054 882.

We also welcome enquiries from students who may be completing a university course or other course in relation to Sport Science, Teaching, Sport & Rec or any other course where being involved in a well organised, structured junior sporting club may assist both the student and our club.

Junior Committee

Success doesn't just happen by good luck - we find that the harder we work, the luckier we are!

All of the Junior Committee are accredited Level 1 coaches and either past or current junior parents.  We meet every 6-8 weeks throughout the year to ensure that we continue to provide the best Junior Program in Ballarat and the wider Central Highlands region.

We have a group of very committed people with a diverse range of skills who work very well together.  Having such a skilled group allows us to share the load and everyone picks up a couple of roles each and things just get done.

We are always looking for keen and interested people who would like to join our committee - contact Peter Le Lievre if you are interested in joining our Junior Committee.
